Tungsten worm weights are fishing accessories made from tungsten metal. Compared to traditional lead sinkers, they are more compact, denser, non-toxic, and highly sensitive—allowing anglers to clearly feel the bottom structure and detect subtle bites. Being lead-free, they are also more environmentally friendly.

Tungsten worm weights are especially suitable for fishing in areas with thick vegetation or complex bottom structure, and for targeting bottom-dwelling species such as bass, catfish, and snakehead. To select the right tungsten weight, consider the following:

• Increase 1/8 to 1/4 oz for every additional meter of depth

• Use heavier weights in strong currents

• Pair heavier weights with thicker fishing lines to maintain ideal sinking speed

The most common rigs for tungsten worm weights are the Texas Rig and the Carolina Rig.

In a Texas Rig, the weight is threaded onto the fishing line first, followed by an O-ring or stopper to fix its position. It is then paired with a soft plastic bait (such as curly tail grubs or worms) and a crank hook. This setup is perfect for fishing in weedy or snaggy areas, where the compact and dense tungsten weight helps the rig penetrate cover quickly.

The Carolina Rig, on the other hand, places the weight above a swivel, allowing the bait to float 30–50 cm behind it. As the tungsten weight rests on the bottom, it drags the bait naturally behind it—ideal for covering open water and searching for bottom-feeding fish.

Recommended weight selections:

• Shallow water (≤1.5 m): 3–5 g

• Medium depth (1.5–3 m): 7–10 g

• Deep water or strong current: 14 g or more

• These ensure the rig sinks steadily and stays near the bottom.
